At 14.30 on 17 January 2018, the Turkish navy vessel ‘Koycegiz’, which had illegally entered within Greek territorial waters, literally came into contact with the Greek gunboat ‘Nikiphoros’, which was on a scheduled patrol in the waters off Imia, as the two boats touched.
Amateur video footage of the incident, which found its way onto social media, clearly shows that this was the result of a deliberate
attempt by the Turkish crew to obstruct the Greek vessel and provoke tension in the Aegean.
In view of this:
Does the Commission consider such action to be conducive to good neighbourly relations?
What action it will take with a view to ending Turkish aggression in Greek territorial waters?
